The Z in action at a speed trial run at Metro Zoo.

This page is for my......uh, my wife's Z28. We bought the car in May '99. It's a '95 with a 6-speed, T-tops, Graphite leather and the 155 MPH speedo. It had 73,000 miles and I was immediately fixing all of the usual problems on these cars: intake leaking oil, posi making noise, water pump leak and the all so fun plugs and wire change. I must admit however, it's not as bad as some folks make it to be. I enjoy working on this car more than the Regal. I also enjoy the civility of this car. I plan to only do modifications that won't detract from its stock appearance and feel. By that I mean: a stock exhaust note and look, no big-hairy-cams and suspension mods that don't make you pass kidney stones. I plan on taking this car on the One Lap of America at least once before I die so I need to be able to live in it for two weeks.

Currently the car is very much stock. The only visual difference so far are SS wheels and tires. That will be about the limits of the visual modifications as I am enjoying going through the learning process of autocross driving, I'm keeping the car this way for a while. I can't lower it because I will be bumped to a non stock class. Most folks don't like the external appearance of the fouth generation Camaro, but I think it has a lot of the CERV-III in it. Especially in the greenhouse and tail of the car.

Under the hood, again-much stock look. I wouldn't want to change that though as again it would bump me. I think the more stock it looks under the hood, the more people tend to underestimate the car. I think that is a good thing. Nothing like having someone scratch their head after you just beat them in a stock looking car.

The Z28 will be used mainly for transportation. It's my wifes daily driver so I can't get crazy with it yet. It will spend some time at autocross races and at the dragstrip though. A car like this has to be driven to its potential, you know. It has run a best of 14.23 @ 99.71 at Moroso Motorsports Park in West Palm Beach. It has also taken first place in F-stock-how appropriate, don't you think?-at the first autocross it competed in. I will admit to there not being too much competition that day. Still, I considered it a moral victory because I was able to beat much faster cars (Viper, 'Vette, Porsche, and my fierce competitors Z3) even though my last autocross was about four years ago, and it was my first race in the car. Not bad for a true amateur. Since then though, I have been getting beaten often and bad(Iwas 20% slower than the person who won F Stock). I am now competing with veterans and they take this stuff serious. My first couple of events, I used the street tires I drove to the event with. After getting seriously beaten, even by my friends Z3, I switched to R compound street tires and have made a big improvement in my lap times and I have closed the gap to good drivers in my class, Steve Burger and Joan Clark. Just recently, after Steve had some cone trouble, I was able to sneak by him for my first trully earned first place trophy. Joan was able to beat me by .2 of a second, so I am feeling confident about my future. For those of you interested in autocrossing or would like to check out some times and scores of your favorite cars, check out these sites: GCAC and ERSCC. They are the local autocross event coordinators.
